Dare to Dream!

The Master of Entrepreneurship is brand new kind of degree for a brand new economy.  JoAnn and Jim Carland were the first to propose such a degree in the United States.  "We wanted something that would truly serve entrepreneurs,"  Jim said, "not something that taught people how to climb a corporate ladder."  "That meant that we had to design the program from the ground up,"  JoAnn commented.  No matter how many courses you add to an MBA, or what Certificates you include in an MBA, you still have an MBA!  The ME is so different that the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (www.usasbe.org) recognized the Carlands' work as the best example of graduate entrepreneurship education in the nation in February, 2005.  The Chair of the Committee, Dean Robin Anderson, of the University of Portland, commented, "Rather than just adapting an MBA program to accommodate entrepreneurship students, Jim and JoAnn did extensive work in creating an entire master’s program focused on how best to educate graduate students preparing for entrepreneurial activities.  They have done something no one has ever done...  They have defined this thing called entrepreneurship and they have identified what an entrepreneurship student should study!"

Frustrated by the bureacracy of public education, in January, 2008, JoAnn and Jim launched their own college dedicated to the principles of entrepreneurship.  Their Master of Entrepreneurship is a part-time, fast-track, program, designed for working people. It is a deep dive into entrepreneurship: developing an idea, refining a vision, determining viability, establishing a venture, marshaling the forces, proving the concept, mezzanine financing, growing and harvesting the venture; each course takes you deeper into the entrepreneurial act. The program is not just for beginners.  Many of the students we enroll will already own their own businesses.  These will be students who are seeking the skills to grow their ventures.  If you are not now an entrepreneur, you need not have a particular venture in mind to be successful in the program.  Most of our prospective entrepreneurs will actually launch a venture before the program is completed and we know that many of those will capitalize on a vision which emerged during the course of the program.
